Ratings: World Series has biggest start since '04

October surprise. The Indians-Cubs World Series gave Fox the fall classic's biggest start since 2004, led by Sunday's Game 5 (23.6 million viewers), which bested NBC's Sunday Night Football by more than 5 million.

Final openers. CBS's Man with a Plan opened Monday with an OK 7.4 million same-day viewers behind the relocated Kevin Can Wait, which marked a series-low 7.9 million after The Big Bang Theory returned to Thursdays. There, its new companion The Great Indoors managed a decent 8.8 million but medical drama Pure Genius opened with a modest 6.2 million.

Comings and goings. HBO's Tracey Ullman's Show opened with 437,000 viewers Friday, while the fourth and final season premiere of Sundance's Rectify claimed 179,000 Wednesday. FX's third-season finale of The Strain notched 886,000 Sunday, down from 1.2 million last year.
