HBO hacked, 'Game of Thrones,' other episode information compromised

HBO is the latest victim of a cyber hacking.

The network's data was compromised, chairman and CEO Richard Plepler confirmed in an email to employees received by USA TODAY along with a statement from the company Monday, and is now being investigated by law enforcement and cybersecurity firms.

"As most of you have probably heard by now, there has been a cyber incident directed at the company which has resulted in some stolen proprietary information, including some of our programming," Plepler wrote. "Any intrusion of this nature is obviously disruptive, unsettling, and disturbing for all of us."

The hack included an unaired episode of HBO’s Room 104 and Ballers and written materials for Game of Thrones.

Plepler also said the incident is "unfortunately all too familiar in the world we now find ourselves a part of," but assured that HBO along with outside experts are working "round the clock" to ensure it is resolved.

HBO also made headlines Monday for backlash over new show Confederate.

Twitter users rallied against the network regarding the show's concept of imagining slavery as a modern-day institution.
