HOUSTON -- It was one of the city's most fantastical weekends: an event that thrives on unrestrained imagination, neon ink and swords -- lots and lots of swords.

The Texas International Comic Con, commonly known as Comicpalooza, kicked off at the George R. Brown Convention Center at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014. Hundreds of guests pored over treasured comics, engaged in cosplay (costume play) and experienced a completely unadulterated escape from reality. The walls were lined with sales booths boasting precious memorabilia and vibrant, fantastical works of art. It seemed there was only one unwritten rule at Comicpalooza, the more outlandish, the better.

Comicpalooza will host a slew of cosplay celebrities and comic experts throughout the event: Stan Lee, Lou Ferrigno, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the three men of AMC's "Comic Book Men," Rose McGowan, Nichelle Nichols of "Star Trek," Cary Elwes, James Marsters, Tricia Helder of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Two and a Half Men" Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando Masters in "Star Wars" and more. The event will continue through Monday, May 26, 2014.
