HOUSTON—Break out the western wear and get ready to Rodeo!
With the arrival of the trail riders, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo kicked off Friday. More than 4,000 trail riders trotted to Memorial Park for a final night of camping before Saturday’s Downtown Rodeo Parade.
On Friday afternoon, the trail riders will be judged and presented with awards during a ceremony at Memorial Park. Riders from around Texas and Louisiana embarked on their journey earlier this month, with some organizations riding as far as 386 miles to complete the route.
The groups traveled a combined total of more than 1,900 miles, using the traditional equipment of the Old West.
The trail rides will head into downtown for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Downtown Rodeo parade at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The trail ride has been a Rodeo tradition for 58 years.
