HOUSTON – Parts of Houston looked more like the wild West Friday as thousands of trail riders rode into town.

The cowboys and cowgirls needed a little help from the cops when they navigated busy streets and intersections.

A dozen different trail rides came from all over the state with the same destination. They’ll set up camp at Memorial Park Friday night before heading downtown for Saturday’s Rodeo Parade.

Most trail riders are regulars who come from all walks of life.

Some have been on the trail for a couple of weeks, riding horseback or covered wagons for the journey to Houston.

The annual trail rides are a RodeoHouston tradition that dates back more than 60 years.

KHOU cowgirl Sherry Williams will be live at Memorial Park on 11 News at 4 and 5.
