Model, birthday girl Hailey Baldwin had a breakout year

Hailey Baldwin is the rising star to watch.

While headlines have long revolved around Kendall Jenner and the Hadid sisters, Baldwin has made her own space in 2016, moving outside of the social media celebrity orbit into the world of fashion.

The daughter of actor/producer Stephen Baldwin and graphic designer Kennya Baldwin previously made casual appearances on the catwalk but it wasn’t until this year that the Hollywood progeny, who marks her 20th birthday Tuesday, became a breakout model.

Here are the 7 big moments that spurred her rise.

1. Her transition to IMG models 

 

Baldwin was previously signed to Ford Models early in her career before inking a deal with Heroes Models and, in March 2016, IMG. Considering the global agency also reps Karlie Kloss, Taylor Hill and Gigi and Bella Hadid, one could (and should) say it was a power move.

2. Her first major U.S. cover 

Baldwin may have graced the cover of niche publications like Jalouse and Wonderland, but this April marked the first time the model fronted a major mainstream magazine. She was named one of Marie Claire’s five "Fresh Faces" for their May 2016 issue.

3. Her spread in V magazine

Make room, Kendall and Gigi. In June, V magazine crowned Baldwin "quintessential It-girl of 2016," a particularly high moment for the low-key cool girl.

4. Her back-to-back features at New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 

From Tommy Hilfiger and Prabal Gurung to Jeremy Scott and Tory Burch, Baldwin proved her chameleonic talents on the catwalk, winning us over one dramatic transformation at a time.

5. Her striking appearance at the Julien Macdonald presentation at London Fashion Week

Talk about leading the pack. Baldwin opened for the British fashion house during London Fashion Week this September and stunned in several of Macdonald's Spring/Summer 2017 designs, including this sequin mini dress.

6. Her steady campaigns 

H&M x Coachella. Tommy Jeans's Fall 2016. Guess Fall 2016. Guess Holiday 2016. You name it, Baldwin has (probably) booked it, and she's just warming up.

7. Her beauty capsule collection  

 

Baldwin has been heralded for her fresh-faced look, but rather than let her followers merely envy, Baldwin has launched a limited-edition cosmetics line — just in time for fans to get in on the "no makeup" makeup look. A partnership with Sydney-based beauty chain, ModelCo, the collaboration features 25 products ranging from a $19 lipstick to a $42 contouring palette. The capsule collection is now available at ModelCo's online store.
