HOUSTON—Sundance Cinema opened Wednesday in downtown Houston’s Bayou Place.
It is located in the same space as Houston’s Angelika Film Center, which closed in August of 2010 after 13 years in business.
Sundance Cinema, like the Angelika, promises to show a lot of independent movies from film festivals, in addition to bigger movies in wide release.
Robert Redford runs the company and the Houston theater is his third Sundance Cinema in the United States, and his first one in Texas.
The eight-screen theater offers what’s described as a more grown-up movie experience and features luxury seating, fancier concessions and an art gallery.
