AUSTIN -- “School of Rock” cast members including Jack Black and Miranda Cosgrove, writer Mike White and director Richard Linklater hit the Paramount red carpet in downtown Austin Thursday night to celebrate the film’s 10-year anniversary.
Austin Film Society organized the event.
He played a fallen rock star turned fake music teacher in the 2003 hit, but in real life, actor and father of two Jack Black says he’s grown up quite a bit over the past 10 years.
“At the time of the movie I’m like, 'I’m never having kids. I’m too selfish, and I’m too much of a kid myself,’ but since then I kind of changed my tune,” Jack said.
Also all grown up is Nickelodeon starlet Miranda Cosgrove.
“It's crazy seeing everybody after 10 years because we're all from different states. So I’ve seen some of them, but I haven't seen most of the people in 10 years. So just to get to see everybody again, it's been a really fun time,” she said.
Cosgrove along with the rest of her cast members and director Richard Linklater posed on the Paramount red carpet Thursday to celebrate the movie and the impact it has had on music education.
“The movie is sort of set up to do that. Jack's character Dewey is sort of a pied piper of the rock,” said Linklater.
In North Austin thousands of budding musicians have walked through the doors of the city's own School of Rock located in the Northcross Shopping Center.
“This school has grown by over 100 percent, and we have twice as many shows now every four months,” said School of Rock General Manager Colleen Bell.
Just like the movie, it's a place kids can learn music through the love of rock and roll.
“The method that we use, the performance-based method is why it works, and it's why the kids in the movie get so bonded together, and it's why our kids bond so well together," Bell said.
Now the question remains -- Will there be a sequel? “School of Rock” writer Mike White told KVUE, “Hopefully, one day.”
For now they'll stick to celebrating a film that captured a lot of laughs and a lot of hearts.
