HOUSTON—This weekend’s Houston Auto Show it’s all about getting more miles out of your money gas money as more, even luxury model, manufacturers are getting in on the game.

KHOU 11 News got a sneak peek inside the latest models that are sure to save you when you head to the gas pump.

“Everybody is looking for that miles per gallon. They don’t want to go to the gas pumps like they used to, once a week. They’re looking to go every 3 weeks,” said Ford spokesman Kirby Janke.

In response to that, many car makers are designing more fuel efficient cars and trucks.                 The 2013 Ford Fusion is expected to get more than 40 miles per gallon.

On the sports car level, Porsche has a 2012 911 Carrera S that gets 27 miles per gallon.

The 2012 Chevy Volt—an electric car—touts its 94 miles per gallon with a four-hour charge time. And the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta TDI can run 42 miles to the gallon.

With the age of smaller electric and hybrid cars, many in Texas may not want to drive some of these smaller vehicles, but Ford says it came up with a way customers don’t have to shrink down, take the Ford F-150 truck as an example.

“It’s a V6 engine, but with the eco-boost technology you’re getting all the power, all the horse power as you do with a V8, but you’re getting the fuel economy of a V6,” said Janke.

Roughly 500 vehicles will be shown at the Houston Auto Show.
