George R.R. Martin on Trump's election: 'Winter is coming. I told you so.'

George R.R. Martin says winter is coming. And this time he's not talking about the fictional world of Westeros.

The Game of Thrones author, like so many other celebrities, posted about his shock, anger and sadness after Donald Trump won the presidential election Tuesday night.

"There are really no words for how I feel this morning," he wrote on his blog on Live Journal, where he set his current mood to "slough of despair."

"America has spoken. I really thought we were better than this. Guess not," he went on. "Trump was the least qualified candidate ever nominated by a major party for the presidency. Come January, he will become the worst president in American history, and a dangerously unstable player on the world stage. ... Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse."

Martin ended by invoking the phrase used in his books to portend darkness and danger. "Winter is coming," he wrote. "I told you so."
