In the era of Peak TV, how do you introduce the Emmy Awards? By pulling in cameo appearances from everyone from James Corden, to the cast of Modern Family, Veep and ... Jeb Bush.
Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel found himself late to the awards show, but instead of calling up an Uber, he decided to hitch a ride with the runaway car from The People v. O.J. Simpson. But finding himself in a car chase and confused by the frequent yells about "juice," Kimmel hitchhiked with the cast of Modern Family -- but was soon waylaid by an errant smoke bomb.
He was saved by the carpool lane and James Corden, who picked Kimmel up for a bit of Carpool Karaoke. Though Kimmel was initially reluctant, the two got into a rendition of Wham!'s Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (including a dream sequence dressed in Wham wigs) -- a callback to Corden's first karaoke sketch in BBC's Red Nose Day.
But Corden was soon gone and replaced by Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale, who snuck in the show's first dirty joke with a reference to Selina Meyer's LBJ nickname.
But these cameos only set the stage for a more surprising appearance: Jeb -- exclamation point! -- Bush. The former presidential candidate lauded the benefits of Uber before he poked fun at his "positive campaign," called Kimmel a "god-less Hollywood hippie" and kicked Kimmel out of the car.
It turns out dragons were the answer all along, as Kimmel finally gets dropped off by Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen and literally roasted Ryan Seacrest.
All in a day's work for the Emmys' host.
