Christian Siriano casually cast five plus size models in his runway show

There are designers who talk about dressing all women, and then there's Christian Siriano.

The Project Runway alum and red carpet denizen cemented his role as champion for all women with his Spring / Summer 2017 show on Saturday at New York Fashion Week. Siriano casually cast five women size 12 and above for his runway lineup, without issuing a press release or staging a trite body-positive marketing campaign or pushing a hashtag.

Even when asked about his work with a variety of women, and special skills in fitting a range of body types, Siriano was demure.

"I love that we dress so many different types of women," he said. "That's what the world is, the women sitting at home, that's what my mom and sister are. I just think it's super important. I think this show in particular is going to show a lot of great diversity on the runway."

And it did. Curvy, straight, big chested and flat, his models ran the gamut, and most importantly, so did his clothes.

There were pieces that accentuate curves, or create the illusion of more, like the A-line tea length dresses and raffia wrap dress. There were universally flattering necklines, like the halter on a crepe gown that also had a unique cape. And slinky evening dresses as well as conservative wide leg pants.

But Siriano's real genius is his ability to fit these elements to almost any shape.

"I think I went for one fitting, and he had already made the dress, there was minimal stuff he had to do it it," says model Georgia Pratt, one of the women to walk in the show who is outside the typical sample size of 0 or 2. "You feel really strong because the tailoring is so good."

"For me, I'm a statement piece kind of girl. so I love his bold prints," echoes Precious Lee, who also walked in the show. "He has amazing fit for me, I'm a size 14. It's amazing for me to not only have something that fits well but to be current and be stylish. I have to search for a lot of things but I don't have to search so far when I'm shopping with Christian."

Further proof of his remarkable talent can be found in the front rows of his shows. His devoted celebrity fans, who were all smiles in the gallery turned Mediterranean destination, range from the buxom Christina Hendricks and Pamela Anderson, to the petite but curvy Kelly Osbourne, glamazon tall Jaimie Alexander and lithe Coco Rocha.

Though he wouldn't name names, several of that wide cadre of women will likely hit the Emmys red carpet in one of his creations in roughly a week's time.

"What's really great about the collection is we're really celebrating a variety of things on the runway today," he says. "We're celebrating color and vibrancy and diversity and lots of women can really wear these clothes."

With immediate availability of many pieces on Amazon and at Pay Less, we're guessing a lot of women will be wearing them soon.
