Houston Quilt Festival underway: So perfect they look like paintings

KHOU 11 Photojournalist Marcelino Jaurez has the story

HOUSTON -- The Houston International Quilt Festival got underway at NRG Park on Thursday.

Almost 2,000 quilts (works of art, really) are on display.

They were judged by a panel, and one full of colorful boats by Dickinson woman took home best in show. It came with a cash prize of $12,500.

"I'm just very tenacious and I tried my best and sometimes it works out good and sometimes it doesn't but I really work at it," said winner Cynthia England.

When you look at many of the works, it's hard to believe they are quilts and not paintings.

The show runs through Sunday. Tap here for more at Quilts.com.
