ABC looks back to the future with 'The Jetsons' pilot

Meet George Jetson – again.

ABC is aiming to bring back The Jetsons, a space-age 1960s cartoon series, as a live-action, half-hour comedy. The network Thursday ordered a put pilot, which includes an extra level of financial commitment that increases the incentive to broadcast it.

The Jetsons, briefly a prime-time cartoon when it premiered in 1962, became a syndicated staple watched over the years by following generations. It featured George Jetson, a Spacely Sprockets employee, and, as the theme song goes, "his boy, Elroy; daughter, Judy; Jane, his wife,"  along with goofy dog Astro and robot maid Rosie.

The series, which will be "set 100 years in the future, looks at America's favorite future family through a modern filter," according to the pilot description. No casting has been announced.

The pilot, produced by Warner Bros. Television, includes Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit) as an executive producer.
