HOUSTON -- What's your favorite pie? Round up your friends and plan a party -- it's National Pie Day!

According to the American Pie Council, the favorite pie of 36 million Americans is the apple pie, of which 231 varieties exist. In June 2012, NPR reported the top American pies bought in the store are apple, pumpkin, cherry, blueberry, and Dutch apple.

Some restaurants are recognizing National Pie Day with discounts on their desserts, and some organizations have planned events around the nation.

Jan. 23 isn’t the only National Pie Day of the year, however. Don’t confuse it with March 14's Pi Day, which celebrates the mathematical constant, 3.14.
