RECIFE, Brazil -- Will Ferrell is in Brazil to watch USA's huge Thursday morning match against Germany. And he has already made it clear that he LOVES America. He was at the official fan pre-game party at the U.S. Soccer headquarters in Brazil Wednesday night, rallying fans with an inspirational speech.
Sunil Gulati, the President of the U.S. Soccer Federation, introduced Ferrell as the newest member of the Men's National team. He joked that Ferrell would be filling in as US team member Jozy Altidore's replacement until Jozy gets back from his injury, and that Ferrell is the team's secret weapon.
When Ferrell took the stage, next to "Teddy Goalsevelt" - the USA fan that has gone viral with his Teddy Roosevelt-inspired costume in Brazil - he started off with a "U-S-A" chant, which got the whole crowd cheering and high-fiving. Then he said he's honored to be playing in the big game.
"I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm not in the best shape, ok?" said Ferrell, humbly. "I'm not in soccer shape right now. But I'm gonna try my best to live up to the spirit of this American team."
Then he took some inspiration from Luis Suarez in his plan of attack.
"I don't care if the game gets close, I will bite - I will bite the opponent," he promised. "I will bite every German player if I have to!"
If you're wondering where to find Ferrell once the game starts (since he won't actually be playing with the team), here's how to spot him:
"Look for the guy sitting next to Teddy Goalsevelt in a red, white, and blue bikini top."
