HOUSTON – One of the world’s most popular heavy metal bands of all time is coming to Houston.
Megadeth will play at the Bayou Music Center Thursday, Dec. 12.
"You’re going to hear the original mission statement, which is to be the fastest and most furious metal band ever", said bass player and co-founder David Ellefson in a recent phone interview.
He and front man Dave Mustaine formed the band in 1983 shortly after Mustaine left Metallica.
After numerous line-up changes over the past 30 years—not to mention drug habits that almost killed them both—Ellefson and Mustaine have re-established their friendship.
Megadeth’s music has its own distinct – and dark—flavor with references to death, war, politics and religion.
But there’s a faith journey in here as well. Both Ellefson and Mustaine have written books. My Life with Deth and Mustaine offer eye-opening details, including many triumphs and failures along the way.
It’s the music, though, that keeps fans coming back.
"Heavy metal has a lot of different sights, sounds, colors and textures to it", Ellefson said. "And I think, if anything, Megadeth has been one of those bands that has brought all of those elements out into the front rather than keeping them in the back."
Megadeth has sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy nominations.
They recently released their 14th studio album titled Super Collider.
After wrapping up their Texas swing, Megadeth plays Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday Dec. 16.
