NEW ORLEANS -- There's always something new to see or hear in the French Quarter, from musicians to artists and even dancers.
But one performance by the Organ Grinders is a little different.
“We're hoping we're going to set the right mood, and we're hoping that she'll appreciate that he really gave the effort and made a gesture,” said Amy Yacorzynski.
Yacorzynski helped organize this very New Orleans-themed surprise for Lacardio Francis and his girlfriend, Ashtin Fortner.
Fortner thought they were just stopping to watch a street performance.
“I really didn't know what was going on because I was about to say, ‘Can we go please?’” Fortner said, laughing.
But when the dancers brought out pictures of the couple and presented her with red roses, she knew something special was coming.
“I want to know, would you marry me?”
Family and friends were there to share in and help capture, the moment.
Francis admits it took a little help from his friends.
“It was almost his idea, but I took it over. Me and Amy and we orchestrated this,” he said. “I think it turned out pretty good.”
The couple has been together for five years, but Fortner said she didn't see a proposal coming.
“I'm lost for words. I don't know what to say.”
But she knew just what to say when it counted.
The first question friends asked the couple afterwards -- when's the wedding? They have not yet set a date.
