HOUSTON - The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has honored country star Reba McIntire with an annual scholarship to be given in her name.
Rodeo officials on Thursday night announced the scholarship before McIntire’s performance - her 26th at the expo in Houston.
Funding for the $18,000 McIntire scholarship will be provided by the show’s educational fund.
The Oklahoma native first performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1984 at the Astrodome. Organizers estimate McIntire since then has performed before a total of more than 1.4 million fans at the event.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo opened Tuesday and runs through March 23 at Reliant Park.
