HOUSTON -- From The Woodlands, to Katy, to Galveston, the skies all over Houston will be lit up this July 4th weekend.
Let's start with the granddaddy of them all. The Freedom Over Texas show is the biggest one, on land, in the nation.
It attracts 100,000 people to the western edge of downtown Houston along Allen Parkway. The gates open at 4 p.m. Sunday, but people begin congregating in the area hours earlier. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. A can of food for the Houston Food Bank gets you in free. Pat Green headlines the big concert.
The show at Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park is a classic. The Houston Symphony performs again this year. Everyone loves the 1812 Overture. The concert begins at 8:30 p.m. and fireworks follow.
Katy's 21st Annual Freedom Celebration begins at 9 p.m. at Katy Mills Mall. Want a tip? Go to the east side of the mall to get the best view. The celebration begins at 5 p.m.
In Sugar Land, the big show is in Oyster Creek Park from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is their 25th year.
Town Green Park and Waterway Square is the site for The Woodlands' Red, Hot and Blue Festival. It begins at 6 p.m. Sunday. As with the other fireworks shows, it is free. Parking is free too.
The rides and restaurants take a back seat to the pyrotechnics this weekend on the Kemah Boardwalk. The 4th of July celebration there actually begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. with parades on land and water.
The boat parade begins about 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Boardwalk canal. There will be entertainment and lots of kid-friendly activities, all free. Restaurants, games and rides however will charge their usual prices.
Then Sunday at 9:30 p.m. Kemah officials will shoot off the fireworks. It's a beautiful show over the bay.
It's a beautiful show over the waters of the Gulf in Galveston too. Galveston's fireworks show is Sunday at 9:15 p.m. on the Seawall in the 3600 block.
And Baytown's celebration starts at 4 p.m. at Bicentennial Park. C.C. Rider performs and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
Deerpark's celebration begins Sunday at 6 p.m. Fireworks are at 9:15 p.m. at Jimmy Burke Activity Center on 13th Street.
