TUCSON, Arizona – Giant George, once named the world’s tallest dog, has died.
George’s family in Tucson, Arizona said he died last week at the age of 7.
"George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, one month before his eighth birthday," said his Facebook page. "We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years. We look forward to honoring his spirit by continuing his charitable works."
George, a blue Great Dane, was 7’3 and weighed 245 pounds when Guinness Book of World Records crowned him the world’s tallest dog.
The gentle giant was the star of a popular book called "Giant George, Life with the World's Biggest Dog."
In 2012, George lost his title to a Great Dane named Zeus. The Michigan dog measures 7’4 and weighs 155 pounds.
