HOUSTON – That penny in your pocket could be worth $200 -- or 20,000 times its face value.
Five rare 1914-D Lincoln pennies have been put into circulation by the Greater Houston Coin Club as part of a citywide treasure hunt.
Coin club members used the pennies at randomly selected Houston merchants Wednesday and they’re now making the rounds around Houston.
If you find one, you can return it to the Money Show of the Southwest at the George R. Brown Convention Center this Thursday, Friday or Saturday. They’ll give you $200.
The old pennies have "ONE CENT" spelled out in large letters on the back. They have President Lincoln on the front with the date 1914 and the letter D below it.
A penny can be involved in as many as three to five transactions a day and in as many as four different businesses. So be sure and check your change this week!
