Call of the Wild: Local celebs try their best at annual Turkey Calling Contest

Local media celebrities including KHOU’s Lily Jang did their gave it their best shot at imitating the Thanksgiving bird Saturday morning at the 20th annual Turkey Calling Contest at the Houston Zoo.

Cowboy Dave, of KILT 100.3 FM radio, hosted the event, which is meant to serve as a warm-up for the 20th annual TXU Energy Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving morning.
 “It is pretty exciting,” Jane Bavineau, vice president of the Sheltering Arms Senior Services, said Saturday.
Bavineau said the event is a great way for them to set up for the Turkey Trot where they expect a turnout of about 15,000 runners this year.
This is TXU Energy’s ninth year sponsoring the contest.
“We are so excited to be a part of the Houston community and this is just one of the ways we can give back,” Kim Campbell, senior manager for Customer Advocacy at TXU Energy, said.
