HOUSTON – Houston’s own Beyonce is facing some backlash for using audio from the Challenger explosion on her new single “XO.”
The 1986 crash killed seven crew members when the shuttle exploded almost immediately after liftoff.
The widow of shuttle commander Dick Scobee issued a statement saying the moment was an emotionally difficult one for family and colleagues -- and they have chosen to focus on how those astronauts lived not on how they died.
A former NASA employee who now runs a space news website calls the use of the audio "inappropriate in the extreme".
Beyonce released a statement saying the song was recorded with the sincerest intention to help Challenger families heal.
