NEW ORLEANS – A former "Bachelor" contestant has died after an apparent suicide attempt in New Orleans, her family said in a statement Wednesday.
Gia Allemand, 29, had been in critical condition since she was hospitalized Monday night.
She was found unconscious by boyfriend Ryan Anderson, who plays for the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.
Allemand had been on life support and "died peacefully" with Anderson and her mother by her side, the statement said.
Allemand appeared on Season 14 of "The Bachelor" featuring Dallas pilot Jake Pavelka in 2010.
"I am in complete shock and devastated to hear the news about Gia. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known," Pavelka tweeted. "I had to pull over, I can’t stop crying. We have lost an angel."
"Gia was a beautiful girl and an unbelievable friend," Season 14 winner Vienna Girardi told TMZ. "I’m shocked and can’t believe what happened to her. She seemed so happy, but you never know the demons people are fighting inside. I will never forget her and will miss my friend forever."
Allemand also competed on the first two seasons of the spinoff show "Bachelor Pad."
On Twitter, Allemand described herself as: "Christian. Bachelor 14. Bachelor Pad 1 & 2. Pescetarian. Wannabe Poet. Shark Week Enthusiast. Professional Giggler. Pure Barre instructor" from New Orleans.
Her biography said she was an actress, model and reality TV contestant.
