AUSTIN -- For fans of Willie Nelson and satellite radio, and event Friday was the best of both worlds. SiriusXM held the grand opening for its new downtown Austin studio.

Wearing his famous braids and headband, Willie joined Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell for the grand opening celebration at the Moody Theatre. It will be the Austin home for Sirius XM, and the Willie Nelson radio channel, Willie's Roadhouse.

Nelson says the SiriusXM channel is a great way to promote the works of local musicians.

"You can hear a lot of great bands up and down the streets of Austin here and around, so I'm glad they came down, and this is just another way to help those guys promote their music and stay out there working and picking for us," he said.

While Nelson said the satellite radio channel won't be playing his songs 24/7, he jokingly hoped the channel would play his songs once in a while.

The announcement was timed to coincide with the first day of Austin City Limits music festival.
