'Magic pill, snake oil': Stay away

Crank It Up
The Tornado does absolutely nothing to increase gas mileage.
KHOU-TV

If you want your vehicle's engine to run cleaner or get better gas mileage, don't fall for the "magic pill" that is being sold or a product called The Tornado or anything else that seems too good to be true. There are products that will clean your engine and they've been around for a while.

Clutch/manual transmission rattle

Scotty: Thanks for all the helpful advice. I have a 1997 Honda Civic (~63K miles) with a 5-speed manual transmission. At the beginning of a slow acceleration from a full stop in first gear, I briefly hear coming from below the car a metalic rattling. I presume the sound is coming from the clutch or manual transmission. Occasionally, I may also hear the same noise when shifting from first to second gear. Do you have any ideas about what may be causing this noise? Thanks in advance, Ron

If your tranny itself is worn, it can make the noise, but so can the clutch. Push up and down on the clutch to see if the noise changes. If it does, it's a clutch problem. If it doesn't, it's a transmission problem. Clutches are doable, but tranny work is VERY expensive and you might just live with that and change the tranny oil out to help it. Scotty
