HOUSTON – A former Houston police officer injured in the line of duty was honored Thursday along with several other officers at a ceremony held at the Houston Police Academy.

Retired officer Richard Salter was shot in the face and critically injured in a drug raid at a Houston home in 2009.

Salter, along with six other HPD officers who saved his life, were honored again before fellow officers.

In all, 192 officers were recognized for their achievements and exceptional service at the ceremony.
