Each year, KHOU Channel 11 rings in the holidays with the Spirit of Texas Toy Drive benefiting The Salvation Army.  The annual toy drive kicks off on Thanksgiving Day and continues through December 20.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted at the Channel 11 studio, located at 1945 Allen Parkway, as well as at participating partner locations: Randalls Food Markets, IHOP restaurants and Houston Area Hyundai Dealers.  The 2010 toy drive is also sponsored by Reliant Energy.

Since it began in 2001, The Spirit of Texas Toy Drive has grown to become one of Houston’s largest toy drives, generating more than 17,000 gifts for area families in 2009.  This year, the need for holiday assistance is widespread.

Donations collected at Channel 11 and its partner locations will be distributed through the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.  For over 120 years, The Salvation Army has provided Christmas assistance for disadvantaged children and seniors in our community.
