CONROE, Texas— Crowds gathered at the Conroe Airport Friday to pay tribute to fallen Marine Sgt. Daniel Wilson. His body arrived there just before noon.
Dozens of people also stood along I-45 to honor Sgt. Wilson as his body was driven to Leona, near Centerville.
The Patriot Guard motorcyclists escorted the young Marine home where he will be laid to rest.
Sgt. Wilson, 22, of Normangee, died May 11 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Sgt. Wilson was awarded several medals during his stint in Afghanistan.
He went to high school in Centerville where he played football and ran track.
