Hall-of-Famer Cal Ripken Jr. was in town on Thursday, March 8, 2012, to help with the ribbon-cutting of the new SpringSpirit Baseball Fields in northwest Houston. The $3.5 million, state-of-the-art fields are in the Spring Branch area. SpringSpirit, a faith-based non-profit, uses baseball as a way to teach at-risk kids and help them with academics, athletics and life choices.
