HOUSTON—The Texas Education Agency is using a new accountability system to rank schools. 

In addition to standardized test scores, the new system uses graduation rates and college admission exams to calculate student achievement and progress.

The education commissioner said the new system is fairer to schools struggling to help kids who need it, while maintaining a state standard.
