HOUSTON --- Starting Sunday, Sept. 1, some new traffic laws will take effect.

Among the changes is the minimum fine for passing a stopped school bus. The fine is jumping from $200 to $500.  A second violation within 5 years means a fine of at least $1,000.

Also, the “Move Over” law is expanding. In addition to police, firefighters and ambulances,  drivers must also move over or slow down when going by road construction crews.

And if you’re a driver who has had an accident, you can now use your smart phone to show proof of insurance.
