HOUSTON -– Microsoft wants you to sell them your old Apple iPad (and hopes you’ll purchase a new Surface RT while you’re at it).
The company recently announced a new promotion that says it will pay a minimum $200 for “lightly used” iPads. The company is offering the money in the form of a gift card at the Microsoft Store.
The offer is extended to the iPad 2 and the 3rd and 4th generation iPads.
The company hopes customers will turn around and use that card to buy the Surface RT tablet, which starts at $349.
According to Yahoo News, “the latest market share data for tablets shows that the Windows 8 category has seen its piece of the pie grow slightly (up to 4.5 percent in Q2 of this year from 1 percent a year earlier), but the company’s own Surface RT tablet accounted for only 0.5 percent of all tablets sold in Q2 of 2013.”
Over the weekend, Microsoft ran several YouTube videos (that were later pulled) poking fun at Apple.
