HOUSTON—Every year, the fifth-grade students at Longfellow Elementary make their top 10 list of the most popular toys. They research toys on the internet, watch toy commercials, then create a list of the things they think their classmates will like most for holiday gifts.

Next, they hit the playgrounds, hallways and lunchroom to survey fellow classmates on what they want for holiday gifts. The students are responsible for tallying up the surveys.
