HOUSTON -- The Houston Fire Department is asking the public to show its support by donating blood June 10 through June 30.
They’ll be collecting blood at all Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center neighborhood locations. Just tell them you want to donate in honor of the firefighters.
It was Friday, May 31, when four firefighters were killed and at least 13 more were injured during a five-alarm motel fire at Southwest Houston on the Southwest Freeway.
Capt. William Dowling was critically injured and received multiple units of blood, HFD said.
Organizers of the June blood drive say by “Committing for Life,” the community can help ensure that a healthy blood supply continues to be available for all patients, like Captain Dowling. The blood center must collect about 1,000 donations daily to meet the region’s needs.
As part of the HFD drive, all donations will benefit patients in the 26-county region served by Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
