HOUSTON—The 2010 Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive raised more than $2.4 million pounds of food and dollars for Houston's hungy. For the fourth consecutive year, Channel 11 teamed up with local grocers H-E-B, Kroger and Randalls, other local media outlets, the Houston Texans and the non-profit organization Souper Bowl of Caring to host the city-wide food drive benefiting the Houston Food Bank.
From mid-January through Super Bowl Sunday, grocery customers were encouraged to donate cash or food at any one of more than 200 participating H-E-B, Kroger and Randalls grocery stores. Channel 11 and other local media outlets promoted the endeavor through public service announcements, in-news mentions, news stories and more. To boost the effort, more than 250 local churches and area schools also conducted food and donation drives.
The incredible outpouring of food and funds benefits the Houston Food Bank, which serves nearly 400 hunger relief agencies in 18 Southeast Texas counties. For more information about Souper Bowl of Caring, visit: www.souperbowl.org.
