GALVESTON – Hurricane season begins June 1 so it’s a good time to go over your plans to prepare and, if necessary, evacuate.

When Rita hurled toward the Gulf Coast in 2005, millions of people tried to get out of the way, creating gridlock on area highways. More than 90 deaths were blamed on the disastrous evacuation.

Galveston officials are using some high-tech tools to make sure people and pets are ready.
