HOUSTON -- A social network is offering up inspiration in the form of photos.
"We Heart It" is available on both the web and in app form. At first glance, it looks a lot like Pinterest. On the homepage you can scroll through hundreds of interesting photos posted by others around the world.
You can also look at photos by category or “tag.” For instance, if you click a photo of beautiful apples, it might have the tags “delicious” or “fruit." Clicking any of those tags will show you similar photos. It’s kind of addictive because you never know what you’ll run across next.
So how is it different from Pinterest? Its makers say it’s all about the people who use it. They’re not sharing recipes or tips to get fit – it’s all about the photos. They say the users tend to be young females, but people from all walks of life can share the images they love.
“We Heart It” was actually started back in 2007, but recently it has gained some real traction. Just last week it was announced investors put up $8 million into developing it even further. The network already has about 20 million users every month, and about 1 million new people sign up monthly.
