HOUSTON -- We’re learning more about an upcoming gadget that hopes to revolutionize how you control your computer, tablet, and smartphone. All you have to do is wave your hands around in the air.

It might remind you of Microsoft Kinect, the motion based gaming device for Xbox, but Leap Motion Controller’s makers their new device is lot more accurate and it’s not just for gaming.

The little gadget plugs into your computer’s USB port – Windows or Mac. It then monitors your hand movements so you can surf the web, play games, or work just by moving your hands around to control what’s on the screen. It’s so accurate you can sign your name in the air, and your handwriting will show up on the screen.

Leap Motion plans to launch an app store, just like the one for your iPhone, where you can download programs specially made for motion control.

Just this week the company announced the sale date: the week of May 13th. It’ll cost about $80 at Best Buy or online.

Leap Motion also says it has a deal with Asus, and many of the computer maker’s upcoming systems will have the motion control cameras built right in. The company hopes to one day even put the device in smartphone, saying it’s already small enough to do so now.

Only time will tell if the $80 is worth it. Many early buyers of Kinect say they only played with the motion based gaming controller for a few weeks before it started gathering dust.
