HOUSTON -- No doubt about it, Sandy is a devastating storm, but several images circulating on social media have made it out to be much different than it actually is.

One of the most popular images making the rounds showed the Statue of Liberty in the foreground with large circulating clouds in the background.

New Yorkers were quick to comment on it, saying the storm looked nothing like that. In fact, the Photoshopped creation was circulating on the web since at least 2010, reports Snopes.com.

Despite this, the NYC photo already had more than 100,000 shares just hours after it was posted on Facebook. To try and make it more believable, its caption read: "This is an amazing shot of New York today with Frankenstorm bearing down. Nature is so powerful, yet so beautiful."

Other fake images showed sharks in Sandy's flood waters.
