The general public may be divided on Michael Vick's potential return to the NFL, but every NFL player I talked with locally Monday agreed that Vick deserves another chance.
Nose Tackle Casey Hampton of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers told me,
"He paid a hefty price for what he did and I definitely think he's paid his debt. He definitely deserves another opportunity to play the game he loves to play."
Pro Bowl Deep Snapper Ryan Pontbriand said,"I think he served his time and he served his sentence. He did everything they asked him to do and if the commissioner thinks that's something that is going to happen. it'll happen."
Pontbriant doesn't buy into the thought that his skills have severely eroded while serving time either. "I think he's probably still got the skills to do it so it's just a matter of time."
I agree with the players. Vick did something really bad, but unlike so many celebrities and pro athletes that are allowed to skate on even more severe charges, Vick did his time. Now he should get a second chance.
One of the things Vick was criticized for before his arrest was that he didn't work hard enough to make himself a better professional.
He relied on his natural ability instead of making himself better like the "great ones" do. So from my point of view, it'll be interesting to see if Vick also grew up in that department after his incarceration.
