HOUSTON--Forecasting Debby's track continues to be a challenge. The latest National Hurricane Center's 5 day cone is one clue.
Reliable European models insist on taking the storm towards Texas while others like the Canadian model now differ. The Canadian models now says the East Coast trough may be able to steer Debby more northerly over time. If this is the case, the large Texas ridge may be too far West to exert enough influence. The ridge is forecast to hold and not flatten out as it did in previous runs. This would have pulled Debby more to the West around the highs clockwise flow.
Regardless of which model is the most accurate at this time, it's a good idea to just stay in touch with KHOU-11, KHOU.COM and KHOU's Gulf Watch on your smart phone for the latest updates on Tropical Storm Debby.
