So we took a drive into the wild flowers this weekend. Drove out 290 and man, WHAT A SHOW! It's not only the bluebonnets but the Indian Paintbrush, yellow and purple and little white flowers coating everything in between. We passed many spots where those with small children had stopped to take 'that' kids in the Bluebonnets picture. I saw one little girl, must have been about 4yrs old, pouting and crossing her arms in protest as mom and dad tried to coax a smile out of her in the flowers. A few cows looked on in disgust. The wife and I had a good laugh at that.
I can tell you that from Hempstead all the way to Austin you will find field after field of picture perfect Texas wildflower scenes like this all week and into the weekend. Get an early start to avoid traffic and look out for outbound construction on 290 right before you reach Brenham.
