An area of disturbed weather is getting better organized this morning. It is located just off the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula and is moving toward the West Northwest at 15 mph. The hurricane center gives it an 80% chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm during the next 48 hours as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico toward the Texas coast.
A hurricane hunter aircraft will fly the system today and the data gathered will help us get a much better picture of intensity and track forecast. At the moment we are looking at a late Friday evening or early Saturday morning landfall somewhere on the Texas coast.
This could be the rain maker we've been waiting for to bust the Texas drought. If it intensifies it could also do some damage.
Everyone needs to be reviewing your hurricane preparedness plan. Be ready to act on that plan if the storm strengthens and heads our way.
