It's official hurricane hunters confirmed Tropical storm Debby has formed in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this afternoon. This is the first storm to form in the gulf this season and the first time four cyclones have formed before July 1.
The first storm to form in the gulf this season is slowing down this evening. The latest 7pm update from the National Hurricane Center places Debby a little over 200 miles SSE of the MIssissippi delta. Three to six inches of rain will drench Southern and Western Florida during the night.
The current storm track places the Houston/Galveston area in the 5 Day cone of uncertainty. With this in mind it is a great time to look over your hurricane plan and maybe pick up a few extra supplies. You can find a list of ideas and evacuation routes in our KHOU-11 hurricane preparedness guide at your local Randalls and State Farm agents.
Stay tuned for more coverage on KHOU-11 tonight at 10pm and as always on KHOU.com's Hurricane Central.
