Thought it was hot today? You're right; in fact it was the first time we hit 90° all year. Of course, there will be many more to come. But as a co-worker put it today, "I'm just not mentally ready for that yet!" Compared to last year this is a big deal because we had 5 ninety-degree days in April 2011, followed by 17 in May. Since 1990, May has averaged 10 days over 90° and chances are good we could come close to that mark again tomorrow.
Here's something else to think about; even with a good deal of cloud cover we got pretty hot. That's due to the high sun angle this time of year. That and our warm atmosphere has pushed the ultraviolet index into the extreme category. So make sure you have the sunscreen handy for the hottest part of the day from 11 am to 3 pm. We hit the high of 91° today officially at Bush airport at 2:07 pm. By the way, that's no where near the record 96° set in 1964.
