Tropical cyclones Franklin and Gert didn't hang around long. After three days these Atlantic storms made there exits rather quickly.

This time of the year the Cape Verde storms typically form on the southern fringes of the Bermuda high over the south central Atlantic. Easterly trade winds carry the storms towards the Bahamas and sometimes into the Caribbean. Franklin and Gert were both Cape Verde type storms.

Over the next few weeks we'll start to see a significant increase in the number of these tropical weather disturbances. Long range models show a shift in the overall weather pattern that could lead to more storms threatening the United States and Caribbean nations by the end of August.

This is the time of the year to stay alert to the ever changing tropical weather conditions. Please check KHOU.com's. . . . Hurricane Central. . . daily, for the latest information.
