Yep, it has been two years since hurricane Ike made landfall in Galveston. The storm had category Two winds but a category Four surge. It was because of Ike that we no longer link storm surge with intensity forecasts.
On this second anniversary of Ike we find the tropics busy but see no big threats to Houston-Galveston. However, we are still in the heart of hurricane season and we will be watching a tropical wave in the Caribbean for potential development this week.
