The weather never looked better if your traveling to granny's by car this week. Chances of traveling on dry pavement for most of your destination are almost 100%. That's the case if your traveling Monday or Tuesday and even on Wednesday, when the traffic really picks up.

This year it looks like holiday traffic rather than mother nature will slow you down. Early in the work week a series of weak upper level waves move over the far northern and western portion of the state. Showers will be very isolated from El Paso, Lubbuck to the Red River valley. By mid week a large upper level ridge regains momentum and brings milder mid 70 degree readings back across the state. Overnights the gulf coastal areas will also be slightly warmer than our seasonal readings of the 40s.

The approaching holiday weekend finally brings a cold front into the area early Saturday with heavier showers likely in South Texas and isolated rain here in Houston. If your on the go and need the latest app for your smart phone, downloads are free at the following link. Have a safe and happy hoilday from the KHOU-11 weather center.
